Cyrano De Bergerac – Jan 31, 2011 to Feb 18, 2012

Cyrano de Bergerac

February 1 – 18 (preview January 31)

By Edmond Rostand
Translated and Directed by David Whiteley
Featuring Richard Gélinas

A new original translation by David Whiteley just in time for Valentine’s Day, Cyrano de Bergerac is sure to warm your heart in the dark of winter. Cyrano is the eternal tragic romantic hero: he is intelligent, skillful and with a flair for language, but his physical appearance has doomed him to solitude. Richard Gélinas, known for his performances with A Company of Fools, Third Wall and recently on the Gladstone stage in The 39 Steps and I Not Like Thee, Dr. Fell takes on the title role. Rostand’s original verse script was the first recorded use of the word “panache” to mean flair and charisma. Rendering the English translation in rhymed verse is a challenge perfectly suited to David Whiteley, whose rhymed verse translations of The Misanthrope and Tartuffe have garnered critical acclaim.
